MediCare Health & Beauty in Strabane has officially marked a milestone - 20 years of serving our wonderful community! The celebration was nothing short of spectacular, filled with joy, laughter, and appreciation of our loyal customers and dedicated staff.  

Long-Standing Staff Members

We are proud of our Main Street store’s first cohort of employees who have been  working for two decades: Margaret Millar, Mary Gallagher, and Caroline McCrossan, who shared their memories of MediCare journey with the Strabane Chronicle.

As a Manager, Margaret Millar remarked, “I was in with MediCare a few weeks before they opened to get the place sorted, having been asked to be a manager. Due to previous work in Boots and Semi-Chem I knew what it took to get the store ready. I remember the excitement of when we first opened, everyone was in great form. The shop is pretty much what it was back then, selling everything from perfumes and aftershaves, to tanning products and our photography lab at the back, a time when photos needed developed, well before the advent of smart phones. The lab was taken out as need dwindled but the photography side of things has kept going in one form or another.”

Margaret’s fond memories of her tenure in MediCare include the weekly influx of new stock of the latest fragrances for men and women, with all the delightful smells that came with each new consignment, also remembering the Christmas club they ran every year.

Fellow two-decader Mary Gallagher, who started as a sales assistant before becoming a supervisor and then returning to part-time sales assistant, says of her time, “I’ve been at MediCare since the day we opened and it’s a job I love immensely. I’ve worked with some wonderful people through the past 20 years. I think there is only four of the original staff left, but it’s fair to say that I’ve made life-long friendships of fellow staff and customers who come in, not just to buy but also have a chat about their day. It’s lovely to be able to speak with them. I always say, we don’t have customers, we have friends.”

Fun and Festivities with A Special Guest Appearance at MediCare

We were honoured to welcome Lilian Seenoi-Barr, the Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, to our store. Her presence added a special touch to the celebration. She graciously joined us in cutting the delicious birthday cake, a moment that symbolised not just the passage of time but the strong bond we share with our community.

The atmosphere was electric with the beats from a live DJ, who kept the energy high and the smiles wide. The customers were thrilled with the in-store demos, special offers, spot prizes, and hamper giveaways that punctuated the day.

One of the highlights of the day was the genuine sense of community spirit. Our staff, many of whom have been with us for years, mingled with customers, sharing stories and laughter. It was a day of reconnecting with familiar faces and welcoming new ones, all brought together by their shared support for MediCare Health & Beauty.
