Wegovy® Tablets

You can access our pharmacist-led Weight Loss Service at convenient locations across Northern Ireland. Our pharmacists can provide confidential advice, clinical assessment and ongoing support to help eligible patients understand their weight management options.

Wegovy® tablets are a prescription-only medicine and may not be suitable for everyone. A consultation is required to assess eligibility, medical history, current medicines and treatment suitability.

Wegovy® tablets represent an important development in weight management, as the first GLP-1 tablet approved in the UK for weight loss and weight management. As a prescription-only medicine, treatment is only available following a clinical consultation to assess suitability, safety and eligibility.

Wegovy® tablets are expected to launch on 6 July 2026. To register your interest in our Weight Loss Service and be contacted when appointments become available, please click the link below:

What are Wegovy® tablets?

Wegovy® tablets contain semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor
agonist, and are used as part of a weight management plan alongside a
reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

They work by helping you feel fuller for longer and reducing
appetite, which may support weight loss when used with lifestyle changes.

Wegovy® tablets are taken by mouth once daily. Your
pharmacist or prescriber will explain how to take them correctly and what to
expect during treatment.

Who may Wegovy® tablets be suitable for?

Wegovy® tablets may be suitable for some adults who meet the clinical eligibility criteria for weight management treatment.

Suitability will be assessed during your consultation. This includes reviewing your BMI, medical history, current medicines, previous weight loss treatments and any relevant health conditions.

Treatment will only be supplied where it is clinically appropriate.

What are the main side effects of Wegovy® tablets?

As with many medicines, Wegovy® tablets can cause side effects. The most common side effects are usually stomach-related and may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal discomfort and
reduced appetite.

Side effects are often more noticeable when starting treatment or increasing the dose. Rare but more serious side effects can also
occur, so our pharmacy team will provide advice on what to look out for and
when to seek medical help.

How much weight can I lose while using Wegovy® tablets?

Weight loss varies from person to person. In clinical studies, people taking Wegovy® tablets alongside lifestyle changes, including a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, lost an average of approximately 14–17% of their body weight.

During your consultation, our pharmacy team will help you set realistic goals and provide ongoing support throughout your treatment.

How long do I take Wegovy® tablets for?

Wegovy® tablets are usually started at a lower dose and gradually increased, depending on tolerance and clinical suitability.

Your pharmacist or prescriber will review your progress and advise how long treatment should continue. Long-term weight management also relies on sustainable lifestyle changes, and our team can support you with this throughout your journey.
